Braces are one of the most well-known dental treatments available. Everyone is looking for a straight smile, especially teens. Today, many different braces are available, and deciding what is best for your teen can be difficult. At West Valley Dental in Tukwila, Washington, we offer clear ceramic braces to patients of all ages, but especially for teens. Ceramic braces work just like traditional braces but come with several other benefits. We have created this post to outline what you can expect when deciding to go with ceramic braces.

What is the Difference Between Traditional and Clear Ceramic Braces?

Traditional and clear ceramic braces have the same function: straighten your teeth and create that perfect alignment. Ceramic braces are made out of ceramic, meaning no metal is involved. The brackets and the wires appear clear and blend in with your teeth. The process for application is the same. The ceramic brackets cement onto your teeth, and wires connect to slowly push and pull your teeth into the correct position over a while.

The Pros of Clear Ceramic Braces For Teens

One of the most significant advantages of ceramic braces is that they are less painful than metal braces. The ceramic sits softly in your mouth, creating less pain in your mouth. Metal brackets are subject to pulling and tearing your cheek tissue, but ceramic braces do not.

Ceramic braces are hard to notice. The brackets and wires match your tooth color. Meaning the braces are difficult to see. They do not stand out as much as traditional metal braces. Ceramic braces are a good decision for teens who may already be self-conscious of their smiles.

Ceramic braces are durable and lasting. They work all the time to straighten your teeth. Over time, as you eat and bite down on the brackets, the braces will remain strong and supportive of what you do. Made to last, ceramic is hard to damage. Today’s ceramic braces are also stain-resistant.

Cons of Clear Ceramic Braces For Teens

While ceramic braces are cost-effective, they are generally a bit more expensive than traditional metal braces. If this is the only reason you do not want ceramic braces at West Valley Dental, we have many different financing options available to help you get the care you need.

While the brackets are invisible, they are slightly larger than metal brackets. For some, this may feel uncomfortable, but over time you will get used to it. We have several models of what ceramic braces look like in our office, and we are happy to sit down with you and show you what each one looks like and how it can benefit you.
